Volunteers help the Library in many ways. If you’re a teen and are interested in volunteering, there are two options for you:
- Become a Teen Volunteer
- Join a Teen Advisory Board
About the Volunteer Program
If you are at least 13 years old, you’re eligible to be a teen volunteer.
You can earn credit for school or club service requirements.
Your volunteer experience will be helpful when you begin looking for a job or filling out college applications.
Teen volunteers should be able to work independently, rather than only in a group setting.
Volunteer tasks, which vary according to the branch location, may include helping to prepare materials for programs or distribution (photocopying, laminating, cutting, folding, typing), assisting in creating displays, helping to set up the meeting room for programs, or helping with the summer reading program.

Positions Available
The following branches are actively looking for volunteers, though you may still apply even if your branch is not listed.
All weekly volunteer positions are currently filled, though other positions may be available.
How to Apply
Complete the online form below and it will be forwarded to your chosen branch and a Library staff member will contact you when a volunteer position is available. Or download this application, print it, and bring it to the Library.
Please note that some branches may require more volunteers than others, or have a need only in summer.
If a volunteer position is not currently available at your chosen branch, your application will be kept on file for up to a year.
When you’re contacted to volunteer, you'll be given a paper application to be signed by your parent or guardian and returned to the Library.
- If you’re in the 6th grade or older, you can still be involved!
- Most JMRL branches currently have active Teen Advisory Boards that meet once a month. All are open to grades 6-12.
- Members discuss ideas for teen programs and services, offer suggestions of materials to add to the collection, and work on projects together as a group.
- It’s a good opportunity to have input into what’s going on for teens at your library, have fun, and meet other teens.
- Members also earn volunteer credit for attending meetings and working with the group on programs and projects.

The following branches have Teen Advisory Boards:
Meets 1st Tuesday of the month, 6:30 pm.
Meets 2nd Tuesday of the month, 6:30 pm.
Meets 2nd Wednesday of the month, 3:30 pm.
Meets 2nd Tuesday of the month, 5 pm.
Meets Monthly on Tuesdays, 4:00 pm.
Meets 2nd Wednesday of the month, 5 pm.
