About the Bookmobile

Monday through Thursday the Bookmobile has scheduled stops in Albemarle County.  Afternoons and evenings,  the Bookmobile visits its scheduled stops in Charlottesville. The Bookmobile and Outreach Services Department is staffed by Branch Manager Marien Ruiz-Villaman, and Bookmobile Specialists Rosalind Roser and Thomas Raymond. 

Being its own branch within the JMRL system, it houses a collection of around 10,000 items, including: Fiction, Mysteries, Sci-fi and Fantasy, Graphic Novels, Manga, Audiobooks, YA, Easy Readers, Picture Books, Memory Kits, as well as Non-fiction for adults, YA, and children; from this collection, the Bookmobile vehicle carries around 1,500 to 2000 items on the road, serving a current total of 38 bi-monthly stops including senior residential communities and day centers, preschools, high schools, community and recreation centers, as well as stops at public parks and community special events.

Books or other materials borrowed from the Bookmobile are checked out for one month. They may be renewed through our office for another one month period. Materials borrowed from the Bookmobile may be returned to any JMRL location and materials from other JMRL locations may be returned to the Bookmobile.

Bookmobile Schedule

The Bookmobile does not run if Albemarle County Public Schools or, on alternate Fridays, Nelson and Louisa Public Schools are closed for inclement weather. During inclement weather driving restrictions, Bookmobile and Outreach staff will still be available via telephone and email to manage patron inquiries. Listen to radio station WINA (1070 am) and TV 29 for cancellation notices.
