3D Printing Service
Patrons can submit print files for staff to produce an item. Must have a library card, this service is currently available at the Central Library and Northside Library. Call the branch if you would like to know the current color we are printing with.
Guidelines
Central Printer Model: Dremel Digilab 3D45 (Digital Media Lab desk 434-979-7151 ext. 6660)
Northside Printer Model: Lulzbot TAZ Pro (Teen desk 434-973-7893 ext. 6) -temporarily unavailable
- Price: $0.10/gram (final cost will be sent to you for approval before object is printed)
- Filament: PLA
- Patrons cannot request certain colors, types, or brands of filament.
- Prints must take 4hrs or less per item. We cannot run print jobs when staff are not in the building.
- Print jobs cannot be guaranteed deliverable by a certain time. Please be aware it could take several weeks to receive your item.
File formats accepted: .stl, .obj
Disclaimer
All users agree to hold the library harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities directly or indirectly related to the use of its 3D printers, caused thereby, or arising therefrom.
Only designated staff will have hands-on access to the 3D printers. Library staff reserve the right to refuse any 3D print request.
Staff will not assist with the creation of the 3D files. Patrons are responsible for finding or creating the files and submitting them in the .obj or .stl format.
The Library’s makerspace and 3D printers may only be used for lawful purposes. JMRL does not permit patrons to use the tools and materials provided by the library to create material that is:
- Infringing on the intellectual property of others and U.S. copyright laws.
- Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
- Identified as inappropriate for the library environment as identified by JMRL Policy 4.232, Conduct in the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library
Print Job Limitations
- All submitted 3D print jobs must be completed in under 4 hours. If the file submitted for printing will take longer than 4 hours, the object may have to be changed or resized.
- Patrons will be responsible for removing the supporting structures that may be added to the printed object during creation. Library staff will not be cleaning, weeding, painting, sanding, or otherwise working with the 3D printed objects before they are given to the patron.
- Patrons cannot request certain types or brands of filament.
- Print jobs are done as staff time allows and cannot be guaranteed deliverable by a certain time.
Exceptions to these rules will be made at the discretion of library staff.
